The 3rd event by “Wiener Energie Impulse” on the 4th of October 2017 focused on the future of mobility and resulting challenges for the urban planning of the City of Vienna. Eveline Steinberger-Kern (Founder and Managing Director, The Blue Minds Company) was leading through the event, discussing topics like autonomous driving, shared mobility and use of space with Maria Vassilakou (Vice Mayor, City of Vienna), Herbert Hetzel (Founder and CEO, BauConsult Projektmanagement GmbH), Alexander Hotowy (Managing Partner, accilium) and Eva Favry (Mobility Expert,WIMEN).
"We need to look at shared mobility holistically. The public sector and mobility providers need to work collaboratively to ensure services, that are in the best interest of customers as well as citizens" (Alexander Hotowy, accilium).
In his keynote Markus Mailer from the University of Innsbruck (Institute for infrastructure and intelligent transport systems) pointed out that our energy consumption has raised enormously along with our changes of mobility patterns. We moved from 100 % walking towards using a car for more than 50 % of our daily routes.
This is having effects on the environment, our space, our health and travel time. There is a clear need to find a sustainable, multimodal mobility system. The vision for Tyrol is to drive fully electric by 2050 and reduce the total consumption of energy at the same time.
According to him this can be achieved by fostering sustainable transport modes like biking, reducing travel distances and making cars and public transport more efficient (less energy per km; more passengers per vehicle).
